Definition of Tendinitis

Tendinitis is a condition that occurs due to inflammation in your tendons. As a result, you may be able to move the area like you once did. Additionally, you might experience pain and discomfort.

Generally, the condition stems from a sports or other type of personal injury.

This issue, most often, affects your finger, wrist, or elbow. However, anywhere that you have a tendon can develop this problem. elbow or jumper's knee. It receives these names because those who partake in that activity are most likely to develop it.

Tendonitis is an acute condition, which means that it is only temporary and will heal.

It is most common in people who play sports, especially in older individuals who play sports. Older individuals, in general, are more at risk for this condition because their tendons weaken and lose their elasticity as a person age.

Treatment of Tendonitis

When you come in for treatment, you will need to fill out a detailed medical history report.  You will also describe your symptoms and what types of physical activity you choose to participate in.

Your practitioner may recommend that you undergo testing, such as an ultrasound or a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) test. This test will allow your chiropractor to assess for any swelling in your tendon.

Your chiropractor may also move the tendon manually to assess for any noise.

Finally, once your chiropractor determines that you have tendonitis, you may receive a recommendation for physical therapy. Physical therapy will include the chiropractor guiding you through exercises that work that tendon slowly. The exercises will slowly increase in intensity to gradually help you rebuild your strength and flexibility in that area.

Your practitioner may also recommend hot-and-cold therapy or other at-home treatments to ease your discomfort. The heat can ease your pain while the cold will decrease inflammation in the area. The at-home treatments may include a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug, such as ibuprofen. This medication relieves some of your inflammation.
