Pain is your body's way of telling you that something isn't right. When you feel pain all of the time, we call it chronic pain. It can be difficult to cure, but there are ways to manage it. At our offices, we are dedicated to making sure you feel as good as possible. Houma-Thibodaux Spine & Rehabilitation has offices in both Houma and Thibodaux, and we're always here when you need us. Here's what you can expect for your first appointment with one of our chiropractors.
First, we will begin by conducting a general exam of your entire body, not just the area causing you pain. This will be completed by an internist, nurse practitioner, or physician's assistant and overseen by a doctor. We will also go over your medical history, assess your current level of pain, and probably run a few diagnostic tests or perform imaging, such as X-rays. This information helps us create a holistic view of your body so we can provide the best course of action.
Next, we will focus on the area that causes you pain. We will ask where you feel the pain, how intense it is if this intensity fluctuates during different times of day or activities, and how long you've been experiencing this pain. We will want to know what you've been doing to manage the pain, including other doctors you've seen, medications you've taken, or physical therapy you've tried.
We will provide a recommended treatment plan. This may include seeing a chiropractor, referring you to a specialist, or prescribing medication. Regardless of which course of action we recommend, we will let you know how often to partake in that treatment activity, and for how long. Then we will schedule a time to see you again and assess the results.
