Stretches to Address Your Back Pain

Back pain is one of the most common reasons patients visit Houma-Thibodaux Spine & Rehabilitation. One of the best ways to avoid back pain is to implement back stretches into your daily routine. These stretches will help elongate your muscles, relieving pain, and improving circulation. We recommend performing these stretches in the morning when you wake up and in the evening before bed. You can also do them whenever your back starts feeling tight.

Child's Pose

Consider attending a yoga class in your area. The beginner classes include many useful stretches, especially the child's pose. This stretch is performed on all fours. Stretch your rear back to your heels while you press your head to the ground. This will stretch out your lower back and much of your middle back.

Spiral Twist

This is a great stretch to reduce tension in your back and hamstrings. Sit on the ground with your legs stretched out in front of you. Pull one knee up so your foot is flat on the ground. Twist your torso to that side so your opposite elbow is pressing against the outside of your knee. Hold this stretch, then move to the other side and repeat.

Sphinx Stretch

This is another classic yoga stretch. Lay with your chest on the ground. Press your palms to the ground and stretch your torso up while leaving your lower body anchored to the floor.

Address Your Back Pain Today

These back stretches will help improve the blood flow to your back muscles and reduce back pain. If back pain persists following regular stretches, it may be due to an alignment issue. If this is the case, our chiropractor is ready to assist you.
