Our Houma-Thibodaux Spine & Rehabilitation Shares 5 Common Chiropractic Techniques For Back and Neck Pain

Neck and back pain can range from a nagging pain to becoming downright debilitating.  If you have suffered from neck and back pain you understand the importance of finding relief fast.  Luckily, chiropractors exist to help relieve you of painful symptoms.  Below, let's take a look at 5 common techniques to relieve neck and back pain.

Man with lower back and shoulder pain

Logan Technique

Like many of the adjustments a chiropractor will perform this treatment involves putting pressure on the spine.  The chiropractor will use very gentle pressure in order to help put the bones of the spine back into alignment.  This type of technique can be helpful to not only reduce neck and back pain but can help alleviate tension headaches or migraines that can form when the spine is out of alignment.

Soft Tissue Therapy

Instead of focusing on the spine the chiropractor centers his or her attention on the soft tissues including the ligaments and muscles.  This is particularly helpful if there is an inflamed area or joint.  Often, excess scar tissue that may have built up from a previous injury can cause a person to feel pain and discomfort.  The soft tissue massage helps to release unwanted toxicity in the muscles and improve blood flow.  Increased blood flow to the area allows the injury to heal faster.

Gonstead Adjustment

The Gonstead Adjustment is one of the most common techniques found in chiropractic medicine.  This adjustment is used to fix a specific problem.  The chiropractor first identifies the area of the back or neck that is the root of the pain and discomfort.  The adjustment helps to realign the spine in the specific area while reducing pain and swelling. By having the spine back in alignment the body regains balance and the neck and back are able to heal.

Flexion Distraction

Sometimes this technique is known as Cox Technic.  More than half of all chiropractors use this method to help treat joint pain, scoliosis, herniated discs, and many other conditions.  The method uses a gentle stretching motion on the neck and back.  To use this technique the chiropractor will put you on a specially designed table to help with adjustments.

Activator

The activator technique involves using a specially designed instrument to help feed gentle impulses into the different segments of the spine to alleviate neck and back pain.  The patient feels a gentle thumping sensation as the instrument works to regain balance between the vertebrae.  This is a particularly helpful technique to help cure a migraine and tension headaches.
