5 Signs of Bad Posture and How to Fix Them

Poor posture is an age-old problem that has been aggravated by modern life and extensive computer work. Aside from contributing to the negative effects of a sedentary lifestyle, bad posture also creates new issues such as muscle cramping, knots, neck and back strain, and weakening of the abdominal muscles. The signs of bad posture are easy to identify. Here are five signs of bad posture that will likely be familiar to most people.

5 Signs of Bad Posture

  • Rounded Shoulders – Hunching over a computer for long hours causes the shoulders to move forward, giving a “rounded” effect to the upper back behind the neck.
  • Forward Head Position – Similar to rounded shoulders, the forward head position is caused by constant leaning forward, usually over a computer or slouching while sitting. It typically results in neck pain and weakness over time.
  • Hunched Back – A hunched back is caused by spine and back muscles that have weakened to the point where they can no longer hold the body upright. The cause tends to be slouching and poor sitting habits.
  • Chronic Headaches – Chronic headaches are often the result of the neck struggling to support the weight of the head. These headaches are felt most intensely in the back of the head and neck area.
  • Tilted Pelvis – Bad slouching causes the hips and pelvis to tilt forward, resulting in lower back pain, hip joint problems, and a reduced range of motion.
